Process
For this assignment, you will be assigned historical figure from the Second Industrial Revolution and create a Fakebook profile as if you were that person. You will then present your project to the class.
1. First, you will choose one historical figure from the list provided. This person will be the topic of your project. 2. Once you have chosen your historical figure, you will begin research on this person. In order to receive full credit, you will need to create at least FIVE status updates that reflect something your character would have said (updates about their accomplishments, new inventions, quotations, etc.). 3. Next, begin searching for pictures to use for your character’s profile. Again, in order to receive full credit, you will need to post at least FIVE pictures of things your historical figure would post (pictures of themselves, their creations, their home, etc.). Your character’s profile picture does NOT count as one of the five pictures needed. 4. After you have gathered all of your research and pictures, you may begin creating your Fakebook profile at this link: http://www.classtools.net/FB/home-page 5. You will also need to comment on at least FIVE other posts on your classmates’ profiles. Be sure to make comments that are relevant and correspond to something your character would have said. 6. Next, you will create a 3-5 minute speech to present the profile that you have made for your historical figure. In order to receive full credit, you must dress up as your character and bring in more than TWO props that correspond with your presentation. You will have one week to complete this assignment. Feel free to get creative with these profiles, but please remember to keep all pictures and posts school appropriate. Please refer to the rubric to see how you will be graded. |
It will take one class period to explain this assignment to the students. Create your own Fakebook profile before assigning this project and show it to your students as an example. This assignment will take one week to complete. This assignment encompasses different aspects of the Second Industrial Revolution (English, science, history/politics, and family and consumer science), making it
multidisciplinary. This is an individual assignment, so students will not need to be divided into groups. Be sure to emphasize that everything they post on this profile has to be something that their historical figure would say if Facebook had been around during their time. This means that they cannot use current slang in any of their posts. Because this assignment is mainly focused on what the students are researching and creating, it does not require much skill from the teacher. Most of the students will be familiar with Facebook, and since Fakebook is laid out in the same manner, they should not have too much difficulty creating their profile. The only issue that could arise would be if students did not have internet access at home. If this were the case, the teacher would have to allot class time during the week for students to use the computers for their assignment. |
